SDPUS's foundation was established in 2006, by Peter F. Fiorentino, a New York State High School Social Studies Teacher, who first visited Costa Rica in 2002. In 2004/ 2005 Peter began working towards completing a graduate degree in Higher Education (Ed.D. Leadership & Administration) at the University of Rochester, in Upstate New York.

Strategic Decisions & Partnerships has benefited from strong ties with educators,    as well as private companies educational products, equipment, & people. Financial support is provided by a number of foundations and corporations, who are involved in either educational or environmental matters at the international level. Donations from individual persons wishing to contribute, have also provided a significant percentage   of our annual funding.

With the continued generosity of individuals and organizations SDPUS's works are made possible in Costa Rica-  without your financial and/or product contributions SDPUS could not carry on these endeavors. Our organization completely recognizes that each of these contributions represents a judgment of trust in our ability to help people, and we are deeply appreciative for every bit of support that we have received.

Starting in 2002, Peter visited Costa Rica, as a tourist, for the very first time. Though he had extensive experience working with the poor in the Colorado and New York teaching industries, he was deeply affected by the living conditions of  the rural poor  in Costa Rica. Where it is common for entire families to live in a one room, drafty, smoke-filled house with dirt floors, no electricity, no running water and no sanitary facilities. Peter also soon discovered that neither medical nor dental care was readily available to many of the impoverished residents, that make their home in rural Costa Rican communities.

Consequently, Peter has returned to Costa Rica, many times to help apply his professional skills- and soon he began enlisting other colleagues to join in the endeavor, by donating basic health care and educational supplies. Soon more and more relatives and friends donated money to help the rural poor in Costa Rica with medicines, school supplies and clothing for needy children. Peter soon realized the necessity for creating a formal giving foundation in Costa Rica. Peter then recruited and created a formal Board of Directors- to share in fundraising, fiscal management and project planning to aid the rural poor of Costa Rica, and thus the Strategic Decisions & Partnerships Foundation (SDPUS) was created.

In the future, SDPUS hopes to extend services to more countries in Central América. SDPUS hopes to be soon operating in Nicaragua & Panamá. As the budget allows, SDPUS will target new areas of operation in Latin America- to help other needy low income youths in the region receive a proper education. SDPUS's goal is to help foster job skills training and most importantly the opportunity to build a better future, for those who otherwise would be left behind. Something that we see as a win-win for all who are directly involved.
